Roomba Battery Charging Issues

Like many heavy-duty rechargeable batteries, your Roomba battery is a metal hydride model that can last for hundreds of work cycles if properly maintained. While it'll doubtless work fine 99% of the time, we realize there are certain occasions when any Roomba aps battery might act a little wonky. If it's not charging properly, for example, allow us to offer a few suggestions.

Battery Not Charging? Simple Fixes

Is your Roomba battery not charging not charging at all? If this is the case, then there are several things you should check before contacting iRobot for a Roomba replacement battery. First, tighten the connections, from the wall plug to the adapter port in the battery pack on your cleaner. You should see a green light on the charger if the battery pack is properly seated and everything's working right, in which case no Roomba replacement battery is needed.

Battery Won't Run a Full Cycle?

These instructions are for the Roomba 400 Series. If your problem is with the battery not charging fully (that is, if your unit's running for less than 20 minutes before returning to the charger), then the battery probably needs to be reset and cycled.

Here's what you do:

• Remove the battery pack from Roomba.
• Hold down the power button for five seconds.
• Reinstall the battery to reset the system.
• Plug the Charger directly into Roomba (avoid using the Home Base if you have one so as to ensure the charging cycle is not interrupted).
• Charge the battery untill the power light is solid green again and keep the Roomba on the charger for an additional 72 hours (3 days). Important: Do NOT interrupt this charging cycle.
• Run your Roomba (in Max mode) without letting it go back to the charger until it plays its "dead battery" song. If its performance has improved, keep cycling the battery from complete charge to complete depletion several times until it's back up to its old performance.
  
  If the above steps do not help increase your batteries run cycle, it may be time to to ask for a Roomba replacement battery from iRobot if your unit is still under warranty. Or you can purchase a new Roomba battery and have it shipped to your front door for a minimal cost.
